This school-parent compact is in effect during school year   2017-2018.

The    Georgia Washington Middle School , and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (participating children), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.


REQUIRED SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT PROVISIONS

School Responsibilities

 

Georgia Washington Middle School will:

 

  1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:

Georgia Washington Middle school will provide high-quality curriculum and instruction by following the Alabama course of study for all classes taught. Instruction will be based on course of study standards, local curriculum pacing guides, and individual lesson plans that address the needs of the learner. Instruction will integrate knowledge and skills across curriculum areas and use a variety of resources for lesson enhancement. All students are ensured to receive a lesson that is filled with various methods of differentiated instruction that is tailored to meet the student on his/her academic level. Instructional lessons will be delivered in a manner that is filled with creativity and rigor and that reaps a supportive and effective learning environment that promotes innovative teaching and learning activities as well as strategies appropriate to objectives, including the use of technology and RTI.

 

  1. Hold parent-teacher conferences during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement: Specifically, those conferences will be held on as needed basis. This compact will be discussed at annual parent meeting which will be held after the first grading period. Each time there is a parent-teacher conference this compact will be revisited.

 

  1. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress:  Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows: Progress reports will be issued to every student once each grading period. Reports are printed from the guidance office and delivered to 6th period classes. Students are required to sign for these reports. School messenger and school marquee are used to notify parents that progress reports are being issued to students. Parents are encouraged to use INOW to check students’ progress on a regular basis. If home computers assess is not available, parental assistance is offered through the Parent Center located in the school.

 

  1. Provide parents reasonable access to staff.  Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows: Parents may meet with an administrator anytime an administrator is available during the school day. Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled during a teacher’s planning period or before or after school. Parents can call the school and schedule a conference. The secretary will place the notice of request in the teacher’s box.

 

  1. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class and to observe classroom activities, as follows:  Georgia Washington Middle School has an open-door policy for parents. They are encouraged to visit the school any time. Parents are strongly encouraged to visit the school and observe classroom instructions, attend extra- curricular activities, and have breakfast and/or lunch with their child. School messenger, the school marquee, and paper notices are used to remind parents of all events. Parental involvement is encouraged from 7:00am-7:30am and 3:00pm-3:30pm to assist with opening and closing of the school. However, parents are welcomed at any time throughout the day to serve as class assistants or to provide help in areas of need.  Please call the school at 334-215-8290 to discuss times of availability. Our goal is to have a 10% increase in parental participation in school involvement this year.

        

 

 

 

Parent Responsibilities

We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:

 

  • Enforcing school rules and guidelines specifically for attendance and dress code as stated in the MPS Students Handbook that is issued to students and parents each year.
  • Making sure that homework is completed.
  • Reinforcing positive behaviors and attitudes.
  • Encouraging daily reading at home for at least 20 minutes.
  • Participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my child’s education.
  • Attending parent involvement meetings and other programs and activities that support learning.
  • Serving on advisory groups, such as Title I advisory committees, parental involvement committees, CIP committee, and other related committees.

 

Student Responsibilities (revise as appropriate to grade level)

We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the State’s high standards.  Specifically, we will:

  • Follow all school rules and guidelines specifically for dress code, fighting, tardy to school, and respect for adults, peers, and themselves.
  • Complete all of my class work and homework and turn it in on time with emphasis of asking for help when needed.
  • Commit to reading 20 minutes a day outside of school time
  • Study for tests in order to make better grades.
  • Be prepared for class by having all my supplies and materials.
  • Be respectful, resourceful, and responsible
  • Believe in ourselves
